Islam Khoja Minaret in Khiva
Islam Khoja Minaret in Khiva is located in the center of the Ichan Kala Fortress and makes up the complex together with the Islam Khoja Madrassah. Islam Khoja Minaret is considered to be the highest in Khiva, its height is 57 meters, and the second highest minaret in Central Asia after the Kutlug Timur minaret in Kunya Urgench, whose height is 60 meters.
Islam Khoja Minaret and Madrassah was built in 1908-1910. The diameter of the base of the minaret Islam Khoja is 10 meters. The minaret served as an observation tower to call on Muslims for namaz (Azan), to call the population to read the decrees of the rulers.
Islam Khoja Madrasa in Khiva is located in the center of the Ichan Kala Citadel and makes up a complex with the Islam Khoja Minaret. The construction of the madrasah was started simultaneously with the Islam Khoja minaret for 2 years on the initiative of the chief vizier of the Khiva khan Asfandiyarhan’s ruler Islam Khoja. Islam Khoja Madrassa has 42 hujras and a large hall. The construction of the madrasah and the minaret of Islam Khoja was the last and largest architectural complex in the era of the Khiva khans.
